Arne Duncan was born on November 6, 1964 and grew up in the Chicago neighborhood of Hyde Park. He serves as managing partner at the Emerson Collective. Between 2009 and 2016, Duncan was Secretary of Education in the Obama administration. Previous to that he had served as Chief Executive Officer of the Chicago Board of Education and Chief Executive Officer of Chicago Public Schools. Duncan graduated magna cum laude from Harvard College in 1987 where he majored in sociology. From 1987 to 1991, Duncan played professional basketball in Australia's National Basketball League. His wife, Karen, is a native of Australia. They have two children together, Claire and Ryan.
